Post mortem examination of the body of  taxi driver -Nereus Francis on Thursday

A post mortem examination of the body of  taxi driver -Nereus Francis, alias “Cosol”, is expected to be performed Thursday, law enforcement officials have said.

The 51 year old resident of La Retraite, Gros Islet, originally of La Guerre, Babonneau, was pronounced dead  on Monday, July 09, 2018.

A police statement said his body was found about 10.40 pm beneath his Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, registration number TX 825, on the La Feuillet, Gros Islet Road.

There have been reports that spent shells were found near the vehicle, leading to speculation that Francis may have been shot at and in an attempt to take evasive action, his vehicle ran off the road and overturned.

Law enforcement sources told St Lucia Times that Thursday’s post mortem examination will determine whether he sustained any gunshot injury.

His sister earlier this week asserted that her brother had been killed by persons unknown and suggested robbery as a possible motive.

She suggested that Francis may have been targeted in the belief that he might have won money at the casino he would visit in the North of the Island.
