(SLP) has hit back at (UWP), in a controversy over the ‘N’ word

The opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has hit back at the ruling United Workers Party (UWP), in a controversy over claims that the ‘N’ word was used in reference to members of the opposition.

The opposition was responding to a statement from the ruling party, in which the party issued ‘severe condemnation’ of statements made in the House of Parliament by the member for Laborie, Alva Baptiste.

“The UWP is shocked that Alva Baptiste would have the gall to accuse the United Workers Party of using the ‘N’ word when referring to members of the Opposition,” the ruling party statement declared.

It described the assertions as ‘ludicrous, insultive, and a total fabrication’.

On the heels of the UWP statement, Yasmine Hippolyte, the Press Officer to opposition leader, Philip J. Pierre, dismissed the release as ‘ just a desperate but  futile attempt to bury the truth in propaganda, as the insulting remarks made by them  ( the UWP) in this regard, form part of the public record and could easily be verified.’

Hippolyte said in a statement to St Lucia Times that Saint Lucians are well aware of the guilt of the United Workers Party in this regard .

“Only recently, minister Fortuna Belrose on Sunday May 20th insinuated that it’s ‘shit’ talk coming from the SLP . This press release is an attempt to create distraction and diversion from away from the central issues of St. Jude and the Beanfield Secondary School,” the Press Officer noted.

“Instead of wasting its time on propaganda the UWP should build the classrooms required to accommodate the Form 1 students at the Beanfield Secondary and move with haste to complete the St Jude Hospital,” Hippolyte declared.
