Brendon McCullum smashes Trinbago Knight Riders top of Caribbean Premier League

By Sky News

Brendon McCullum smashed 66 from 42 balls as Trinbago Knight Riders moved top of the CPL with a four-wicket win over Barbados Tridents in Bridgetown.

SCORECARD | AS IT HAPPENED

McCullum's third fifty of the campaign featured eight fours and three sixes and saw defending champions Trinbago past Tridents' 128-8 with 21 balls in the bank.

Knight Riders are now onto eight points and lead the table from Jamaica Tallawahs on net run-rate but Barbados' play-off push has been dented by two defeats in 24 hours - Jason Holder's men also going down to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Saturday night.

Tridents were on the back foot as early as the second over of Sunday's clash as they lost three wickets in four balls - left-arm spinner Khary Pierre bowling Dwayne Smith (2), having Steve Smith (0) stumped and running out Shamar Springer (0) off his own bowling to leave the hosts reeling on 3-3.

Shai Hope (42), Nicholas Pooran (34) and skipper Holder (30) lifted Barbados to a working total, with leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed (2-13) the most economical of a disciplined Trinbago attack.

Barbados then had a sniff when they reduced Knight Riders to 60-4 in the 10th over but McCullum's innings took Trinbago to within two runs of victory and when he was caught and bowled by Steve Smith, Dwayne Bravo clubbed the Australian through cover for the match-winning four.

Catch more Caribbean Premier League action on Sky Sports Cricket from 10.30pm on Tuesday night as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots host Guyana Amazon Warriors in Basseterre.
