As teams continue to prepare for the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League, the St. Lucia Stars is said to be making moves towards selecting a more potent team this season. The Trinbago Knight Riders announced last week that Kieron Pollard would be their marquee player, while the Jamaica Tallawahs announced that the “Universe Boss” Christopher  Henry Gayle will be their marquee player this season. This week, the Guyana Amazon Warriors announced that they have been able to secure the services of talented wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran ahead of this year’s tournament. Ironically, all three of these teams were in the play offs last season. This is while the bottom teams the Barbados Pride and the St. Lucia Stars, have shown very little activity ahead of the draft which is one week away.

Ahead of the draft, teams are required to identify four retained players. After some probing, St. Lucia Sports Online has been informed that the local franchise has retained the likes of World Cup winning Captain Daren Sammy, attacking opening batsman Andre Fletcher, and West Indies fast bowlers Obed McCoy and Keswick Williams. While other teams have announced their marquee players, no announcement has been made on their retained players. Is this a sign of the chest game between teams?

The draft for the 2019 Hero Caribbean League is scheduled for Wednesday 22nd May 2019.
