Central Statistical Office to celebrate International Open Data Day

On Saturday 6 March, 2021, the Central Statistical Office joins Open Data Watch (ODW) in celebrating International Open Data Day. This annual event promotes awareness and use of open data.

The 2020/21 Open Data Inventory (ODIN) is the fifth edition of the index compiled by Open Data Watch. ODIN provides an assessment of the coverage and openness of official statistics in 187 countries and monitors the progress of open data that are relevant to the economic, social, and environmental development of countries.

According to the ODW, 2020 was a challenging year for the world as countries grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, 2020 saw great progress in open data making data more usable to all.

The Open Data Inventory (ODIN) measures how complete a country’s statistical offerings are and how well that data meets international standards of openness. Between 2018 and 2020, St. Lucia increased its overall score from 18 to 62. The overall score is a combination of a data coverage sub score and a data openness sub score. Among 187 countries worldwide who participated in the assessment, Saint Lucia ranked 51st overall moving from 171st in 2018. Also, among all the countries of the Caribbean Region, Saint Lucia ranked 1st moving up from being last in 2018.

As ODW celebrates the fifth edition of the 2020/21 ODIN the Central Statistical Office of Saint Lucia will continue to work with the ODW in building a better and more resilient national statistical system focused on the needs of its users.
