Winds will be blowing from between the northeast and south near 50 mph or 80 km/h, with occasional gusts. Wind speeds are expected to gradually decrease as Tropical Storm Elsa moves away from the island.

Over the southern Leeward Islands and areas further south it will be cloudy to overcast at times with periods of rain, moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds. Elsewhere partly cloudy and hazy becoming cloudy at times with some scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

…ELSA STRENGTHENS A LITTLE AND IS VERY NEAR THE LESSER ANTILLES…

At 5:00 am today the centre of Tropical Storm Elsa was located near latitude 12.7 degrees north, longitude 58.6 degrees west or about 185 miles or 297 kilometres east-southeast of Saint Lucia.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 12 to 24 hours followed by little change in strength.

Tropical Storm Elsa is moving towards the west near 28 mph or 44 km/h and this motion is expected to continue during the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the system will pass near Saint Lucia or over the Windward Islands later today, move into the eastern Caribbean Sea late today and tonight.

A tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.

The alert level at the La Soufriere volcano in Saint Vincent remains at Orange. Interests in Saint Lucia and the south-eastern Caribbean region are advised to continue monitoring official sources for updates.
