I want to thank the United States for the donation of a Field Hospital and Utility Vehicles to Saint Lucia this week. We had been in discussions with the United States for some time for this donation, first as a response to Climate Change and responding to natural disasters, however, as the pandemic hit we proposed it be set up as a respiratory hospital for the south. We are pleased that it has finally come to fruition and the present Administration saw it fitting to accept the donation. We trust that the facility will be used to ensure persons suffering from COVID-19 in the south do not have to travel to the north for assistance. We worked hard as an administration to strengthen our relationship with the United States and we have already seen the benefits in the softening of the Leahy Law and our police being allowed to participate in US funded training activities. The donation of the field hospital and utility vehicles is valued at more than US$650,000 and was made possible through the U.S. military’s U.S. Southern Command Humanitarian Assistance Program. Thanks again to the US and the US Embassy in Barbados for this needed support to Saint Lucia
