Minister for Youth Development speaks on Skills Development for the 21st Century

Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Kenson Casimir, recently delivered the keynote address during the Commonwealth Youth Forum, at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The address titled “The Economic Imperative: Skills Development for the 21st Century” encouraged employers of Commonwealth governments to give due consideration to the mixed model of employment that has been embraced as a result of COVID-19. The Minister cited the practice of a reduced work week and its positive effect on worker attention span. He went on to reference how Commonwealth education systems should take heed to these new models also, as they could help produce a more well rounded skill based education system.

The Hon. Minister added that for young people to be successful within today’s workforce, traditional skills must be partnered with practical skills. He concluded by stating that adaptation is key.
