Do-Nation Foundation Encourages Fathers to Take their Children to School

Do-Nation Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Saint Lucia, is encouraging fathers and male guardians to take their child to school in observance of “Dads Take Your Child To School Day”, which is observed on Thursday, September 22.
This fatherhood engagement event began in 2007 and is an innovative outreach initiative whereby school systems invite fathers and father figures to escort their children to school on this specific day, providing an informative presentation highlighting school policy, personnel and procedures while answering relevant questions posed by the participants. In addition, attendees are introduced to local and national responsible fatherhood programmes and services, poised to address ongoing critical needs articulated during the interactive session.
In June 2021, Do-Nation Foundation created Father’s Rise, an initiative aimed to elevate the visibility and leadership of fathers and father figures, bringing additional resources to communities and coordinating various efforts to engage and support fathers. We use broad strategies that can be customized to the individual needs of specific partners, including:
• Supporting the leadership development of fathers and father figures to be “Team Captains” of responsible fatherhood in their respective constituency.
• Coordinating referrals for fathers, father figures, and their families to relevant resources and programmes, including those inter-governmental agencies and programmes.
• Conducting community outreach and organizing events that provide fathers and their families with educational opportunities and peer-to-peer support.
• Engaging fathers and service providers in helping to plan, design and implement programmes that support fathers and families.
• Working with the Ministries’ fatherhood-planning group as credible messengers to the community while educating the work group on services needed articulated by the community.
Do-Nation Foundation, for the first time, will be recognizing this day in Saint Lucia as we aim to reach out to male population with the support of Coach Stevan Lynn of Deeds Driven Dads. Do-Nation Foundation would like to encourage all Dads to take their child/children to school, not just for this one day, but as long as time permits.
