Home Affairs Minister Lauds Fire Service on sensitization efforts as Fire Prevention Week 2022 concludes

The Minister for Home Affairs Honourable Dr. Virginia Albert –  Poyotte has again taken great pride in the efforts of the Saint Lucia Fire Service to represent the institution as an organ of fire safety education.

Dr. Albert-Poyotte   says    the emergency responders clearly went beyond the call of duty to prepare   a very creative package for the public that was filled with educational tidbits that can go a long way in preventing fires and other incidents.

“The Fire Service is not an organization that can curtail its regular duties to attend to internal activities. It means everything they undertake   has to be juggled along with the usual heavy workload of the Department. Yet they were determined to hold Fire Prevention Week with   a big splash this year, as compared to being more low-key   over the past two years because of Covid -19 restrictions.”

The Fire    Service registers several house, vehicular and bush fires every year. This is a trend Minister Albert-Poyotte says can be significantly reduced with more responsible behaviours by Saint Lucians.

“I want to appeal to the public to continue to act responsibly to and to take fire prevention seriously. It’s very sad to see persons lose their homes and all of their worldly possessions. Having to rebuild your life from ashes is very difficult and best avoided.”

The Minister also commended the support of Innovative Business Solutions, the main sponsor of Fire Prevention Week, 2022.
