By SLFS

At approximately 4:10 p.m. on Sunday October 2, an emergency response was initiated from the Fire Service Headquarters to Chausee Road in Castries. The incident prompting that response was a motor vehicle collision between a truck and a motor cycle.
The arriving personnel found one male individual, who was identified as the rider of the motorcycle, lying on the road. A rapid assessment revealed that the patient, who sustained severe trauma to his head and fractured extremities was void of vital signs. He was immobilized on a spine board and provided rapid emergency transportation to the OKEU Hospital. The patient’s condition remained unchanged during transportation to the medical facility.
The Saint Lucia Fire service responded to a total of one hundred and twenty one emergency calls for the weekend of September 30 to October 4. Of these, 6 were related to physical assaults and another 6 were to motor vehicular incidents.
Although the majority of the responses made were to medical calls, there were at least two tragic responses.
