Unstable conditions associated with a trough system, will continue to cause some showers and possibly thunderstorms to develop mainly over the northern portion of the region, during the forecast period.
…Tropical Storm Nigel forms over the Central Atlantic… At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Nigel was located near latitude 23.0 north, longitude 48.6 west or about 980 miles or 1575 kilometers northeast of the Lesser Antilles. Nigel is moving towards the north-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and Nigel is expected to become a hurricane on Monday. Nigel poses no direct threat to our region.
A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
