TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Saint Lucia.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Beryl was located near latitude 13.2 North, longitude 63.2 west or about 158 miles 254 km west-southwest of St Lucia. Beryl is moving toward the west-northwest near 21 mph (33 km/h). The center of Beryl will continue moving away from the southern Windward Islands tonight and move quickly westward to west-northwestward during the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 150 mph (240 km/h) with higher gusts. On the forecast track, the center of Beryl will move across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea tonight through

Tuesday and is forecast to pass near Jamaica on Wednesday. Residents in Saint Lucia should expect the hazards associated with the passage of the system to gradually diminish over the next 6 to 12 hours. All are also strongly advised to continue to monitor the progress of this system and pay particular attention to local weather updates issued by the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services.

Showers and thunderstorms continue in association with an area of low pressure located about 1000 miles 1600 km east-southeast of the Windward Islands. Environmental conditions appear marginally conducive for additional development of this system, and a tropical depression could form by the middle part of this week while it moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the central and western tropical Atlantic.

Interests in the Lesser Antilles should continue to closely monitor the progress of this system.
