DIPT TO HOST FIRST-EVER “WOMEN IN ENERGY” WEBINAR FOCUSED ON EMPOWERING GIRLS IN RENEWABLE ENERGY

The Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Transport (DIPT), through the Renewable Energy Sector Development Project (RESDP), is pleased to announce the launch of its first-ever Women in Energy Webinar, scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, at the Department of Infrastructure Conference Room, Union, Castries.

The event, themed “Sisters in STEM: Educating Girls for a Future in Renewable Energy,” will bring together professionals and students to discuss the importance of female representation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, with a focus on renewable energy. The webinar aims to inspire female students to explore career opportunities in this rapidly evolving sector and will feature insights from women currently making an impact in energy.

This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Renewable Energy Sector Development Project (RESDP)—a Government of Saint Lucia project implemented by DIPT with funding and support from the World Bank. The RESDP seeks to lay the foundation for Saint Lucia’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy future, with a focus on the development of utility-scale renewable energy—particularly geothermal energy. The project also emphasizes inclusivity, education, and capacity building as essential components of long-term energy transformation.

A key element of this vision is the Scholarship and Apprenticeship Programme (SAP), which is facilitated in partnership with the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC). SAP provides scholarships and practical training opportunities for students—particularly young women—pursuing studies in technical and vocational areas related to energy and infrastructure. The programme aims to strengthen local expertise and ensure that Saint Lucians, especially girls and women, are prepared to take up meaningful roles in the energy sector.

“The Women in Energy Webinar is part of our effort to build awareness, opportunity, and access,” said Ken Aldonza, RESDP Project Manager. “Through events like this and initiatives like the Scholarship and Apprenticeship Programme, we are equipping the next generation—especially young women—with the knowledge and tools to lead in renewable energy.”
