Accountants celebrate International Accounting Day and Accountants Week 2023

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean (ICAEC) observes International Accounting Day today, November 10, 2023.  This observance coincides with the annual celebration of Accountants Week from November 10 to 18. The theme for this year’s observance is “Leadership, Ethics, and Integrity – Roadmap to greater Transparency and Accountability.”

President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean, Andrea St. Rose in delivering the opening address for the week stated, “I am honoured to address a group of professionals who represent the epitome of integrity, diligence and ethical stewardship in the financial world.” 

The history of accounting as an established practice dates back several millennia and can be tracked as far back as 5,000 B.C.  Many services that we enjoy today would not function properly without the services provided by accountants and this includes but is not limited to Government services, banking and financial services and schools.

Ms. St. Rose highlighted that accounting, often considered the language of business, is a global dialect of trust, transparency and truth that transcends boards, cultures and economies. “Your role as Chartered Accountants is indispensable. You are the custodians of financial accuracy, the guardians of fiscal honesty and the architects of economic resilience…The essence of our profession, protecting the public interest remains unaltered.”   

Chartered Accountants continue to play a significant role in economic development globally and this day is set aside to recognize their contributions.  The ICAEC invites and encourages all accountants and associates to join in celebrating the Accountant’s week of activities.
