Press Release The Saint Lucia Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association held its 2018 National Championship on Saturday, June 23 at the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School auditorium.

A total of 19 athletes contested seven categories.

Five have been selected to continue training under the supervision and guidance of Julian Felix, who has been appointed as national coach, in preparation for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championship to be held in Mexico next month (July).

Vel’s Fitness Centre dominated the women’s competition. In the bikini fitness open, Anita Peter of Life Style Fitness and Nakita Edwards of REPTS lost out to Shalika John of Vel’s Fitness Centre.

Velda John was the sole entrant in the women’s body fitness.

In the men’s physique short class, Lance Etienne of Eldon’s Fitness beat Andy Joseph (Mango Moon), Ultan Stanley (Laborde’s) and Paul Edwards (independent).

Worrell Eristhee of Mango Moon took the men’s physique tall class from Jabarie Bret (South Side), Achebe Victorine (Vel’s), and Donovan Lewis (Vel’s).

Eristhee was the overall men’s physique champion.

Only one entrant featured in the bodybuilding novice section, Owen Phillip of Mango Moon.

More hotly contested was the bodybuilding intermediate division, where Joneil Pelage of Laborde’s outpointed gym-mate Kirton Hubert and Alvin Remy (Sidonie’s).

The bodybuilding senior group saw St. George Prospere of Vel’s overcoming Orvil James (Sidonie’s) and Jean Claude John (Vel’s).

St. George Prospere went on to take the overall men’s bodybuilding title.

Shalika John (bikini), Velda John (body fitness/figure), Worrell Eristhee (men’s physique), Joneil Pelage (bodybuilding junior) and St. George Prospere (bodybuilding) will be monitored by the technical committee on a weekly basis to monitor their progress, as a final determination on their level of preparedness for the CAC Championships.
