ANC commemorates its first year with the achievement of political peace

On July 30th, 2017, inhabitants of a small town in the state of Tachira, called Palo Gordo, surprised the world when they crossed the River Torbes to elect the 537 of the 545 deputies to the ANC National Constituent Assembly.

They defied the threats, the barricades, and even the bullets that were thrown at them by violent groups, all to go to support, but above all to fulfill the legacy of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chavez, as a brave women said at that time: "Here we go, nothing stops us, for you Chavez".

The inhabitants of Palo Gordo were not the only brave ones, that day, neighbors of Baruta, El Hatillo, Chacao, the parish Leoncio Martinez, La Vega and El Paraiso, also showed their democratic character when they went massively to the Poliedro de Caracas, where the National Electoral Council (CNE) opened a contingency center.

The story of bravery was repeated that day in other regions of the country, where the voters also challenged the violent groups of the Venezuelan right, who for three months kept the population terrified with their vandalic protests, actions that left 121 dead, hundreds of injured, as well as substantial material losses.

In total, in the ANC elections a total of 8 million 89 thousand 320 Venezuelan and Venezuelan participated, according to the balance that was offered after 11 pm that night, the president of the National Electoral Council, Tibisay Lucena.

Venezuelans voted directly and secretly for 364 territorial representatives and 173 sectoral representatives. While the remaining eight are indigenous representatives, and were chosen on August 1st in three general assemblies, according to the customs and traditions of the original peoples of the country.

"He won peace, when he wins the peace Venezuela wins," Lucena said on July 30th.

And peace was precisely the first great achievement of the plenipotentiary organ, a day after these elections Venezuela dawned calmly, the Guarimberos left the streets.

In this context, one of the first actions taken by the ANC was to appoint Delcy Rodriguez as president of the Commission of Truth, Justice and Reparation of Victims, responsible for investigating the crimes committed under the seditious actions of the right.

That same August 5th, the removal of Luisa Ortega Diaz as General Attorney was approved and she was deputed in her place to Tarek William Saab. With his appointment, justice arrived in the country.

A year of peace

To celebrate the first year of the ANC, the members of the plenipotentiary power will carry out an activity on Monday in the Plaza Bolivar, in order to commemorate its installation and the overcoming of the political violence encouraged by extremist opposition sectors in the months of April and July of last year.

"Tomorrow we have an activity in Plaza Bolivar, we are going to remember that heroic feat of the Venezuelan people of July 30 of last year," informed the vice president of the ANC, Tania Diaz, in a VTV broadcast.
