Another Illegal Firearm and Ammunition Seized by Police

On Tuesday, October 17, 2023 Officers of the Dennery Police Station received information of shots being fired in La Pointe, Dennery.  The officers proceeded to La Pointe, Dennery and on arrival in the area, noticed a male individual standing in the veranda of a wooden house.  Upon making their presence known, the male individual ran inside which aroused the officers’ suspicions.

The officers pursued the male individual inside the house who at the time hid in the bathroom.  A quick search of the bathroom, the officers discovered one (1) 9mm pistol with two magazines containing twenty-seven (27) rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition collectively.

The male individual identified as Yannick Mathurin, twenty-nine (29) year old resident of La Pointe, Dennery was arrested for the offences of Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition without a Valid Licence after he failed to produce a valid Firearm User Licence.

He was later charged for the offences of Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.  Contrary to Section 21A (1)(a) of the Firearms Act chapter 14.12 of the Revised Laws of Saint Lucia 2013 as amended by Section 9 of the Firearm Amendment Act No. 18 of 2022.

Yannick Mathurin was presented before a Magistrate’s Court for the purpose of bail, where he was subsequently remanded into custody
