Big Fin Freediving Launches Saint Lucia’s First PADI Certified Freediving Courses

By Big Fin Freediving

St. Lucia is now home to a new and exciting opportunity for ocean lovers. Big Fin Freediving
offers the island;s first and only PADI certified freediving courses, making it a must-do for both
residents and tourists eager to explore the underwater world in a unique and eco-friendly way.
Freediving, the sport of diving without the use of tanks, relies on mastering breath-hold
techniques, and allows participants to connect with the marine environment in an intimate,
peaceful, and mindful manner. Freediving comes with a wealth of health benefits including
increased flexibility, less stress and anxiety, a reduction in joint swelling, increased lung capacity,
and it trains your body to better use oxygen.
At Big Fin Freediving, the focus is on providing personalized instruction in small groups with an
emphasis on in-water safety. In addition to PADI Freediver Certification courses, Big Fin
Freediving has classes for absolute beginners looking to see if freediving is for them and a
community snorkel class at Rodney Heights Aquatic Center for those who want to learn to use
their equipment confidently, correctly, and safely before taking them to the sea.
The woman behind this exciting venture is Sara Burnett, the owner and instructor at Big Fin
Freediving. Burnett is a competitive freediver and long-time resident of St. Lucia. She recently
competed in the AIDA Freediving Depth World Championships 2024 in Corsica, France for
Team USA. Her training has taken her from the Blue Hole in Dahab, Egypt to the Turks &
Caicos Islands, Deep Dive Dubai, Korea’s Deep Station, Dominica, and beyond. With Advanced
Freediving Instructor certifications from both PADI  SSI, Sara brings a wealth of freediving
knowledge and experience to St. Lucia.
As St. Lucia continues to grow as a hub for ecotourism, Big Fin Freediving is a welcome
addition to the islands wellness, sport, and adventure offerings, providing visitors and residents
alike with a unique way to discover the island’s underwater beauty. Freediving is also a great
addition to the island’s well-established scuba centers and an outlet for resident spearfishers
seeking to improve their in-water safety and reach greater depths. Learn more about Big Fin
