Caribbean Women in Leadership host mock parliament

BY GIS

Seventeen young women took part in a mock Parliamentary exercise, as part of the Caribbean Women in Leadership training workshop. The mock Parliamentary sitting exposed the young women to Parliamentary procedures and norms. It formed part of a broader training programme for women interested in pursuing political office.

The session, held on Wednesday Nov. 8, debated the establishment of a minimum wage. The motion made way for a lively debate with the governing and opposing sides utilizing parliamentary processes.

The forum formed part of the Women in Politics initiative—a ten-week training program designed to provide tools for women’s success in their political ambition. The training also shed light on strategies that can be used to overcome barriers to women’s full participation in politics.
