Castries Mayor Peterson Francis, asserting that he is a politician, has hinted to reporters here that he could contest the next general elections.
In answer to the question of whether he would run, Francis disclosed that he has been bombarded with that query.
“As I said, I am a politician and if the opportunity presents itself I’ll consider it,” he stated.
The Castries Mayor did not go into details.
Shortly before the last general elections in 2016 Francis, who was already the United Workers Party (UWP) endorsed candidate for Castries Central, “notified the party of his decision, after careful analysis, to stand down as a candidate, but to support, wholeheartedly, the party’s nominee to replace him in that traditional UWP stronghold,” according to a party statement.
The replacement was Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, who went on to win the seat.
Flood-Beaubrun first won the seat in 1997.
