By CTO

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and tourism leaders in the Turks and Caicos Islands deserve recognition for the successful staging of the CTO’s Business Meetings; Destination Media Briefings; the State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC), which returned after a five-year hiatus; and the Regional Tourism Youth Congress; held October 9-13 in Providenciales.

Here are some key highlights:

  • Caribbean tourism leaders paused to remember and pay tribute to the late Obediah Wilchcombe, a former minister of tourism of the Bahamas and two-time CTO chairman.
  • Dona Regis-Prosper was warmly welcomed by her regional colleagues as the new Secretary-General of the CTO.
  • According to the Secretary-General, the conference showcased the strength, diversity, unity, and excellence of the Caribbean region in every aspect.
  • Turks and Caicos Minister of Tourism Josephine Connolly; Interim Director of Tourism Racquel Brown of Experience Turks and Caicos; CEO Stacy Cox and her team at the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association; the dedicated efforts of Karen Whitt and her colleagues at The Shore Club; as well as the outstanding hospitality provided at Beaches Turks and Caicos; along with myriad stakeholder and sponsor contributions combined to deliver an exceptional experience for delegates.
  • Naomi Onwufuju, Junior Minister of Tourism of the British Virgin Islands, secured the top place at the 19th CTO Regional Tourism Youth Congress.
