CCSS’ Walk for Gold

By CCSS

The CCSS Alumni is aiming for gold as the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School affectionately known as Compre enters its golden years. From 1974 to 2024 CCSS continues to make an indelible mark on the education landscape of Saint Lucia. Compre’s 50th Anniversary celebrations kick off with the second annual golden walk organized by the Alumni. Ernette Kangalanders is the Legal Advisor for the Alumni.

“So the Alumni consists of past students who have walked through the halls of CCSS and have gone into society and are making meaningful contributions. So we realize that CCSS molded us so we want to give back. So we came together and formed this Alumni and the plan is to raise as much funds as we can to help better the school environment for students, teachers, and anybody who is going to walk through the halls of CCSS. So bring the community to us and we to the community.”

Public Relations Officer on the Alumni, James Adjadha in his usual high-energy persona has sounded the call for every past student of CCSS and their families to walk for pride and love of Compre to 50 and beyond.

“This is the 50th year and we want to be bigger and better. So far we have gotten a lot of support, persons are buying the shirts at $30 for registration and there is a nice buzz around it. But we want more people to come not just the Alumni but everybody who has had somebody just gone to Compre in their life. A family member, a friend, especially companies you know, your crew come out and support. It’s going to be this Sunday, 28th January, from 7:00 am. We’re starting from Vigie the Peninsular all the way to Castries Comprehensive. So you can’t miss out. It’s the 50th Anniversary guys! We have to go big, we have to go big!”

Members of the Alumni took time out to interact with students inviting and encouraging them to participate in this historic event. Several other activities have also been planned for the year including a red and white ball at the Sandals Golf and Country Club.

“There is that and there is Roll Call and a number of other activities which you can follow us on our social media pages like James said and just stay in the know. Also, we have some sporting activities too so you can sign up for some of these like a football-o-rama and other sporting events like these as well. I don’t want to tell you too much. I just want you to follow the pages and see the number of things we have planned because it is a huge list.”

The Alumni expressed their gratitude to corporate Saint Lucia who have come on board in support of the activities in celebration of CCSS’ 50th Anniversary.

“We just want to say a very special thank you to every single person corporation who has come out to assist us and those who are thinking of coming on board we welcome that. And we just want to say thank you for making our events, our celebration of 50 years a success.”

Registration for Sunday’s walk can be done at CCSS or the William Peter Boulevard on Saturday 27th January from 1 p.m.
