Chastanet says according to statistics 85% of illegal guns entering St Lucia is through containers and barrels

Chastanet says, "a major focus of the current strategy to combat crime should be getting as many of the illegal guns off the streets."
He continues to say, "we also need to strengthen our borders to prevent the entry of new illegal firearms into the country whilst also strengthening the security protocols used to detect firearms in containers and barrels."
In his presentation in the parliament, the Micoud South MP says according to the statistics he had access to was showing in excess of 85% of illegal arms that are coming into St Lucia are coming in containers and barrels.
He continue to say that border control is absolutely necessary, the need to understand that customs has failed to when its comes to the security of our borders. They continue to see themselves as revenue generators.
The homicide rate is 41 with most them are gun violence.
