Saint Lucia still among countries with the Highest Gas prices in the OECS
Unsurprisingly, the Government has hurriedly reduced fuel prices in an attempt to minimize the damage after my revelation during the Budget Debate that they had collected $70 Million more than they expected from Excise Taxes. This is $70 Million that they could have used to shield you from the increases in everyday goods and services. This isn’t a genuine reduction!
For the record I welcome this decrease as my party has insisted for months that fuel prices could and should be lower given the current economic climate. The fact remains, the Government can do more to help you out. Even after this meager reduction, Saint Lucia still continues to have the highest fuel prices in the OECS. They can do better!
The UWP’s argument has always been that the Government should have done more to prevent the increases in these key economic inputs. Fuel, cooking gas and electricity is used by every individual, household and business. No truly caring Government would allow citizens to bare the brunt of this inflation crisis on their own. Under this Labour administration every citizen continues to be forced to pay more for basic everyday inputs without adequate support from the state. More can be done to help you. More should be done to help you. You deserve better!
