By OPM
Established by the Philip J. Pierre led Cabinet shortly after assuming office last August, the seven-member expert committee has returned its findings into the financial arrangements and scope of works concerning the Hewanorra International Airport Redevelopment Project.
- The cost of the Foundation escalated from EC$4.86 million to EC$51.3 million, a cost-overrun of EC$46.44 million
- The contracted price for the Project is not fixed and was based on preliminary rather than detailed designs
- The contractor claimed that the likely cost overrun up to the Shell Phase of the Project will be approximately US$42 million or EC$113.4 million
- The Project under its current track, can cause the Project to end up costing approximately US$400 million or EC$1.086 billion
Hon. Pierre has taken immediate action to avert what could have been a billion-dollar debt burden imposed on Saint Lucian taxpayers.
