A few weeks ago work commenced on the construction of the new Cul De Sac Bridge. The project aims to strengthen a key infrastructure asset while creating jobs and stimulating the local economy through an EC $37 Million grant from the Government of Japan. Upon completion of the project, the new Cul De Sac bridge will reduce bridge closures due to flooding and stabilize the volume of transportation by widening and lengthening the existing bridge. It will also reduce flooding in surrounding communities such as Bexon, Goodlands and Souci. Additionally, it is expected to strengthen socio-economic development in the area and make this road more resilient against natural disasters. This new bridge in Cul De Sac is being undertaken by international experts and being constructed at global standards with the Department of Infrastructure maintaining supervision and oversight during all phases of the project. The Government of Saint Lucia expresses gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for supporting the advancement and development of Saint Lucia, while assisting with building resilience through the grant funding for this vital infrastructure project. |
