Department of Education, Digicel partner on scholarship initiative

The Department of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations has partnered with Digicel to award students who excelled at the Common Entrance Examination. The awardees were presented with scholarship packages at a ceremony held at the conference room of the Department of Education.

Permanent Secretary in the Department of Education, Ms. Michele Charles thanked the telecommunications company for its support for and contribution to the education sector.

“The Ministry of Education is pleased to partner with Digicel on this on this initiative. It could not be more apt at this time especially given that our scholarship—apart from a financial contribution—covers devices, so we have some smart phones and laptops for our students this year. I want to thank Digicel for increasing the number of scholarships to the Ministry of Education. I’m sure our parents and students are quite thrilled with this as they stand to benefit significantly from this initiative,” she said.

Ms. Charles reaffirmed the Department of Education’s commitment to ensuring the wellbeing and development of students in Saint Lucia.

“I want to tell the students in particular that the Ministry of Education is about ensuring that none of our students are left behind. We want to encourage you to continue with your exceptional academic performance. That’s the reason why you’re considered for a scholarship. It is because you performed extremely well during the Common Entrance Exam. We want to congratulate you and wish you all the best as you continue through your secondary school education.”

The one-time scholarships include a financial contribution and smart devices to assist students with online learning.
