Yesterday, all their troubles seemed so far away. Then Drake caught up.
Yesterday (June 24, that is), Billboard announced that Drake — with his new song “Money in the Grave,” featuring Rick Ross — officially outranks the Beatles with 35 charted songs on the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10.
The Fab Four previously held the record for second-most songs on the hit list, while Madonna continues to reign supreme over both Drizzy and the Beatles with 38 charted titles.
Just last week, Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, was neck and neck with the Beatles for his appearance on Chris Brown’s track “No Guidance,” which debuted at No. 9.
Since then, the former “Degrassi” star has been teasing new music — his fifth album, “Scorpion,” was released last summer — via his Instagram, with a series of snaps with the caption “Album Mode” taken in Turks and Caicos and Toronto.
As Drake’s “Money in the Grave” rap goes, “Still on top like I’m scared of the drop.”
No word yet from Beatles bandmates Paul McCartney, 76, or Ringo Starr, 78, on whether they will be able to take a sad song and make it better.
Adding insult to injury, “Yesterday” the movie, which explores a world in which no one except one struggling musician (Himesh Patel) remembers the Beatles, premieres in theaters Friday.
