Earthquake recorded near Cayman

A small earthquake shook the Cayman Islands on Wednesday morning (November 25).

The island’s Hazard Management Unit the confirmed the quake in a Facebook post, adding that they are awaiting details from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The unit further noted that there is “no tsunami threat issued for the Cayman Island at this time”. 

In an update at 11:50 am the USGS shared that the magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck near 49 kilometres south of Cayman’s capital, George Town.

Several residents on island reported feeling the small tremor.

Officials in Cayman said no injuries or damage were reported.
