Edward Blasters trounce Melius Challengers in Gros Islet Domestic Cricket Tournament

SSO - Edward Blasters led by an unbroken opening century partnership between Dane Edward and Stephen Naitram registered a comprehensive ten wicket victory over Melius Challengers as the 2019 Gros Islet Domestic Cricket Tournament sponsored by the District Rep continued on Friday 28th June at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
Dominic Auguste, the stand in captain for the Challengers upon winning the toss batted first in the 40 overs a side encounter and saw his team dismissed for 134 in 37.5 overs.
Ryan Goodman top scored with 21, while there were other useful contributions from Noelle Leo 18, Bolton Sayers and Sanjay Hayle 16 each with Tonius Simon and Jeremiah Charles making 10 each.
Bowling for Edward Blasters, Kymani Sexius 3 for 19 in 8 overs, Royce Paul 2 for 38 in 8 overs with I wicket each going to Nyheem Rosemond, Kurt Edward, Caleb Thomas and Jeandel Cyril.
Set a victory target of 135, the Blasters in commanding style cantered to 137 without loss in only 14 overs.
Captain Dane Edward finished on 67 which was laced with 7 fours and 4 sixes, while Stephen Naitram made 61 with 3 fours and 6 sixes.
All the bowlers perished in the onslaught.
The Man of the Match Award went to Dane Edward.
The tournament now enters into the semi final knockout stage.
Thus far Edward Blasters and Gabriel Falcons have secured spots into the semi finals.
The two other semi finalists will be determined on superior Net Run Rate between Melius Challengers, defending champions Gerson Challengers and Goodman Warriors who all finished the preliminary group stage matches on equal points.
