Electricity Assistance Programme to begin in October
By GIS
Qualifying households will start to benefit from a $75 bill credit under the Electricity Assistance Programme (EAP) as the Government of Saint Lucia continues to implement the nation's economic and resilience plan. The Electricity Assistance Programme seeks to provide temporary relief to specific households for six months - from Oct. 2020 to March 2021. The EAP will benefit recipients of the Public Assistance Programme, the Child Disability Grant, persons living with HIV/AIDS and approved beneficiaries of the Income Support Programme for non-contributors to the National Insurance Corporation (NIC).
Irene Gaspard, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Equity, said: “The signing of the MOU between the Government of Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited, is an indication of our care for the vulnerable groups in our midst. Placing the on our priority list is in sync with promises made in the past. The EAP is another indication that in this challenging period, the government of Saint Lucia will not be moved to abort any of its humanitarian and outreach programmes.”
