Emancipation murals unveiled
Two Emancipation Murals have been unveiled on Jn. Baptiste Street in the capital of Castries.
Award-winning artiste and muralist Naja Simeon portrays the revolutionary nègwès mawon and Emancipation heroine, Petronille Dwine, in his mural entitled Revolution, Emancipation, Celebration.
Master draughtsman and colourist, Alwyn St. Omer, crafted a piece that celebrates Saint Lucia's past and present in an artistic essay entitled Now We Are Free. His mural illustrates symbols of Saint Lucia’s compellingly beautiful landscape and the people of her ancestral past while embracing who we are as a people in the present-day expression of that freedom.
The Cultural Development Foundation commissioned the Emancipation Murals for Emancipation celebrations 2023.
