On a serene Sunday, the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) sprang into action when a motor vehicle veered off the road along the Roseau stretch. The incident led to the transportation of a female passenger to the OKEU Hospital for medical attention.

The accident unfolded in the late afternoon, with the emergency call reaching responders at about 4:07 p.m. Swiftly, they rushed to the scene to assess the situation and provide the necessary assistance.

Upon their arrival, it was evident that the male driver, involved in the mishap, declined transportation via ambulance. However, a female passenger, estimated to be in her fifties, had sustained what appeared to be minor injuries. Consequently, she was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The precise cause of the accident was not immediately apparent, and investigations are ongoing. It is worth noting that Saint Lucia has recently experienced a concerning surge in road accidents, prompting Fire Chief Ditney Downes to issue an urgent appeal for road safety.

Downes, reflecting on the increasing number of incidents, emphasized the need for responsible behavior on the roads, particularly during events such as the Jounen Kweyol weekend, when SLFS emergency personnel traditionally respond to several vehicle accidents. He urged drivers to limit alcohol consumption, practice defensive driving, adhere to traffic laws, and prioritize safety to ensure safe journeys to and from their destinations.
