First National Bank Staff Set to Strike Over Unresolved Issues

By Josiah G.A Bicette/SNN

Frustration among First National Bank employees has reached a tipping point as staff members plan to go on strike on October 8th, 2024, citing ongoing dissatisfaction with the bank's treatment of its workforce.

Employees are expressing concerns over what they describe as years of broken promises, underappreciation, and a lack of fair compensation. Many claim they feel undervalued by the company, which they allege prioritizes sponsorships over addressing internal staff needs. A significant number of workers report feeling demotivated, contributing to high staff turnover.

At the center of the discontent is a pending salary upgrade that has been delayed for years, as well as a salary review that employees say has been kept hidden from them. The promised salary raise, which was supposed to take effect in 2020, has yet to materialize.

"This is the first national, across-the-board issue affecting all staff. The management needs to address it fairly and start treating their employees with the respect and compensation they deserve," one staff member stated.

The October 8th strike date marks a stand by employees who insist they will no longer tolerate the company's lack of response to their grievances
