First Woman Elected President of Dominica

Mrs. Sylvanie Burton is the President-Elect of the Commonwealth of Dominica. Mrs Burton, the first woman, and first Kalinago woman, was elected in a formal process during the Fifth Meeting of The First Session of The Eleventh Parliament on 27 September 2023.

“On behalf of the Government of Dominica, I extend warmest congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Burton as she takes up the esteemed position of Dominica’s Head of State,” Prime Minister of Dominica, the Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit said on his Facebook page.

He said the President-Elect will be sworn into office on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 4pm at the State House Conference Center.

“I wish also, to thank the President, H.E Charles A. Savarin and Mrs. Clara Savarin for their years of distinguished service to the Commonwealth of Dominica. May God bless them richly,” the Prime Minister said.
