Food safety tips issued to Vendors at Jounen Kweyol activities by the Ministry

The Ministry of Health Wellness and Elderly Affairs would like to take the opportunity to remind food  vendors  at the upcoming  Jounen Kweyol festivities over the weekend,  of the following in order to ensure a safe activity:

1. Ensure that food maintains appropriate temperature.
2. Ensure adequate hot holding equipment are provided (e.g. stenos, coal pots, warmers) to keep foods hot for the duration of event
3. Ensure adequate cold holding equipment to keep cold foods cold are provided (e.g. coolers, ice, chillers) for the duration of event
4. Provide separate coolers and ice for cooling of food and drinks.
5. Ensure that ice used for cooling of foods and drinks are not used for serving of drinks
6. Ensure that food requiring Temperature Control is not stored at atmospheric temperature.
7. Ensure cold foods are stored at a temperature range of 40˚F or below and hot foods at a temperature of 140˚F or above.
8. Ensure foods on display are adequately covered to prevent contamination.
9. Use separate utensils for serving different dishes especially when serving foods with a potential to cause allergenic reactions.
10. Ensure that foods are adequately labeled, in particular, foods which contain ingredients that can cause potential allergenic reactions.
11. Authorized food handlers must be properly attired.
12. Ensure proper hand hygiene is practiced and an adequate supply of gloves is provided.
13. Ensure all food handlers are in possession of a valid health certificate.
14. All vendors must ensure that they are in possession of valid public health temporary licenses.

 Please Note: The officers at the Environmental Health Division will continue to monitor and work during the event to ensure a safe Jounen Kweyol activity.
