By Do-Nation Foundation INC.
Anse Cochon Beach, Saint Lucia – The Do Nation Foundation Inc., with the financial support of the French Embassy to the OECS Member States in residence in Castries (Saint-Lucia) and the technical assistance of Unite Caribbean, proudly announces the successful completion of an engaging outdoor event as part of the ongoing SWAG (Smart, Worthy, Ambitious Girls) Project. This initiative was made possible through the French Embassy as part of the XGBV pilot project funding initiative. Held on November 17, 2024, this event brought together 50 young women and girls from the SWAG community and 20 dedicated volunteers from Good Deeds Day for a day filled with fun, fitness, and friendship.
The event took place at the picturesque Anse Cochon Beach, generously supported by Ti Kaye Resorts. Participants enjoyed a variety of activities designed to promote physical health and social interaction, including snorkeling, beach volleyball, and fitness exercises. These activities not only encouraged physical well-being but also fostered an environment where young women could build positive friendships and support networks.
"We are thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation in our outdoor engagement event," said Mrs. Diane Felicien, Executive Director of the Do Nation Foundation Inc. "The SWAG Project aims to empower young women by providing them with opportunities to connect with their peers, develop new skills, and build confidence in a supportive setting."
The SWAG Project is dedicated to enhancing the lives of young women and girls through various initiatives that promote personal growth, leadership skills, and community involvement. This outdoor engagement event is particularly relevant as it coincides with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign that runs from November 25 to December 10 each year. This campaign emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about violence against women and girls while promoting gender equality.
The funding by the French Embassy has been instrumental in making the SWAG project possible. Their support, which demonstrates France's diplomatic commitment to gender equality in Saint Lucia, underscores the importance of international partnerships in fostering community development and empowering our girls.
Participants expressed their excitement about the day’s activities. "I had so much fun snorkeling and playing volleyball with my friends," said [D.S.], a participant from the SWAG community. "This event helped me meet new people and feel more confident."
The Do Nation Foundation Inc. extends its heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers, sponsors, and partners who contributed to making this event a success. Together, we are building a brighter future for young women in our community.
