Haiti: security forces accuse the government of being complicit with gangs as several officers shot and killed at a police station

The gang members, who shot and killed the officers, filmed their remains and posted videos of the six law enforcement officials on social media.

The videos show the naked corpses of 6 police officers murdered by members of the 'Baz gran Grif' gang, a 7th officer, wounded in the attack, died in hospital.

The police officers were attacked on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the police station in the commune of Liancourt du Bas Artibonite in the west of the country.

The anger of the National Police officers

National Police officers have demonstrated against the government, accusing it of being complicit with gangs. They tried to break into Prime Minister Ariel Henry's residence. The latter was at the airport, he was returning from a trip from Buenos Aires where he was participating in the CELAC summit. He was blocked for several hours in the diplomatic lounge, waiting for protesters to leave the airport.

The protesters asked the close guard to no longer provide protection for the interim prime minister. They followed the acting Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, to his official residence.

Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry is also the president of the CSPN (Superior Council of the National Police).

Police officers no longer protect civilians. Schools have closed and transport has ceased its rotations.

In a press release, the (RNDDH) National Network for the Defense of Human Rights of Haiti states that "since the rise to power of Prime Minister Ariel HENRY, armed bandits, reinforced by his government, have become more arrogant in their modus operandi and are expanding their territory a little more every day and regularly attacking PNH agents."

According to information obtained by RNDDH, the deterioration of the country's security situation "aims to justify and obtain from the international community, the sending of a foreign military force to Haiti. And, in this macabre plan, the police serve as a painkiller for the leaders."
