In loving memory of Irvin Benjamin Dupres 1 of the few selected who travelled to England in 1979 for the signing of the Declaration of Independence

My dad Irvin Benjamin Dupres of Desruisseaux, Micoud. Past teacher. 2nd principal of the Desruisseaux Combined School. My dad started school sports in Desruisseaux and many other activities to bring the community together. He was the 1st Saint Lucian to study Education and received his bachelor's degree in Education as the 1st Saint Lucian. In 1970, the year I was born, my dad left Desruisseaux Combined to take up the post as the 1st principal of the then Micoud Junior Secondary School, now called Micoud Secondary School. He soon left a few years after and took up the post as Education Officer in the districts of Laborie/Choiseul. His office was located in Choiseul. My dad was also the Inspector of Schools. My dad also served as President of the Saint Lucia Teacher's Union as well as special advisor to the then Sir John Melvin Compton who was not only his best friend but cousin. My dad was 1 of the few selected who travelled to England in 1979 for the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He flew that Saint Flag for the 1st time February 1979. Shortly there after my dad passed away. This year marks 42 years since my dad's death. My dad served his country with everything inside of him. He was given a state funeral. He left 9 of us, 7 daughters and 2 sons. Although I don't hear anything about my dad but he served his country well and will always be remembered by his 9 children and family. Continue to RIP dad. You are missed so much. Been 42 years. I have not gotten over the pain, EVERY Independence is a reminder. Raising without you was nothing easy. No child should live without a parent or both. If I had 1 wish, it would be to dance with my father again. So painful even posting this that how muçh it hurts.
