Incident Outside Bordelais Correctional Facility Leads to Gunshot Injury and Contraband Discovery
By Josiah G.A Bicette/SNN
On New Year's Eve, an incident unfolded outside the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF), resulting in a man sustaining a gunshot wound and the discovery of contraband. The sequence of events began when a Dennery resident in his twenties approached the BCF perimeter fence with a bag, attempting to throw it into the prisoner recreation yard around 2:00 pm.
The situation took a turn when officers from the prison's Special Operations Response Team (SORT) intercepted the individual. In the process of apprehension, the man sustained a gunshot injury and was promptly transported to the Dennery Hospital. Later, he was transferred to the OKEU Hospital for further treatment. The hospital has since released him, and the young man is now in police custody, awaiting potential charges.
A subsequent search of the bag he was attempting to throw over the perimeter fence revealed contraband items, including cannabis, mobile telephones, and alcohol. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by correctional facilities in preventing the introduction of unauthorized items and substances.
Later on the same day, at approximately 9:30 pm, a second attempt was made to throw contraband over the BCF fence. However, the suspect managed to evade arrest, leaving behind a haversack containing mobile telephones, cannabis, and alcohol.
These incidents underscore the vigilant efforts of prison authorities to maintain security and prevent the introduction of prohibited items into the correctional facility. Investigations into both incidents are likely to uncover more details about the circumstances surrounding these attempts and the individuals involved. The events serve as a reminder of the ongoing complexities faced by correctional institutions in ensuring the safety and integrity of their facilities
