Johnson Charles & Qiana Joseph Shine as Saint Lucia’s Cricketers of the Year at SLNCA Awards

Johnson Charles and Qiana Joseph's names dazzled at the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association’s year-under-review 2024 Awards, taking home the prestigious Cricketer of the Year titles.
The gala at the Gros Islet Human Resource Development Centre's Vladimir Lucien Auditorium celebrated the cream of the crop. Kenson Casimir, Parliamentary Representative for Gros Islet and Minister for Youth Development and Sports, and SLNCA President Wayne Auguste addressed the attendees. Clivus Jules was the featured speaker.
Despite debates about his World Cup role, Charles shined, scoring 344 runs in over a dozen (15 T20 Internationals) and leading the Saint Lucia Kings to their first Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title with 452 runs in 12 innings at an average of 41.09.
Joseph, fresh off career highs against Bangladesh, amassed 264 runs in 12 T20 innings, transforming into a star opener for the Barbados Royals in the Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).
Tarrique Edward and Selena Ross were honored as Junior Male and Female Cricketers of the Year, and Cody Fontenelle was named Student Male Cricketer of the Year.
West Indies coach - Daren Sammy earned Coach of the Year.
Former national players John Eugene, Alton Crafton, and Keith Charlery were also recognized for their coaching prowess.
Roseline Preville who is currently in Dominica with the National Senior Women’s team took home the Administrator of the Year award.
Gros Islet and Babonneau shared the Community Achievement Award.
The national women’s team and Under-15 Boys were named Team of the Year and Windwards champions, respectively.
Lifetime Awards went to Roseline Emmanuel, Hollis Bristol, and John Mathurin.
Recognition also extended to statistician Roland Cox and sponsors the National Lotteries Authority.
Guest speaker Clivus Jules highlighted cricket’s unifying power, recalling moments that brought the region together, from Brian Lara’s record-breaking innings to Julien Alfred’s sprinting feats.
