Julien Alfred Named Saint Lucia’s Female Athlete of the Year at SLAA Awards

The World Indoor 60-meter champion, Olympic 100-meter champion, and Diamond League 100-meter champion, Julien Alfred, was named Saint Lucia’s Female Athlete of the Year for 2024 at the Saint Lucia Athletic Association's annual awards evening, held at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, Players Pavilion. The night’s theme was "Elevating Excellence: Celebrating the Spirit of Athletics".

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Hon. Kenson Casimir, the Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Dorna Henry, President of the Saint Lucia Athletic Association, Alfred Emmanuel, President of the Saint Lucia Olympic Association (SLOC) Inc., and former SLOC President, Fortuna Belrose. Also in attendance were Feature Speaker Ajani Lebourne, award nominees and their parents, special guests, and the media.

In other awards, Michael Joseph, who also competed in Paris 2024, was named Male Athlete of the Year, while Denzel Phillip and Naya Jules were named Junior Male and Female Athletes of the Year. Sprinters Ricardo Mann and Jady Emmanuel won the Male and Female Juvenile Athlete of the Year awards.

Several athletes were recognized for their participation in regional and international championships over the past year, including the RAN Under-17 Games, CARIFTA Games, World Under-20 Championships, World Indoor Championships, and the Paris Olympics. The long-distance quartet of Neville Dupre, Jason Sayers, Michael Biscette, and Marbeq Edgar were also rewarded for their performances locally and regionally.

Coach of the Year honors went to Cuthbert Modeste, and Wayne Rameau was awarded Technical Official of the Year. Immediate Past President Brendaline Descarte was named Administrator of the Year, and the Long Service Award was given to Henry Bailey, who has served as a coach, administrator, and technical official.
