The official signing of the contract for the long-awaited construction of the La Guerre Primary School was executed at the conference room of the Ministry of Education on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
The project is being undertaken at a cost of some EC$7.5 million, through funding from the Government of Saint Lucia and co-financed by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
The contract was awarded to Construction and Industrial Equipment Ltd, and is being executed under the Education Quality Improvement Project (EQuIP).
The La Guerre Primary School was due to be constructed under the Basic Education and Enhancement (BEEP) Project, but was delayed following Hurricane Tomas, because the Ministry of Education had to divert funds to repair the many schools that were ravaged by the 2010 cyclone.
The new La Guerre Primary school building will comprise a basement, ground floor and a top floor. The top floor will house four classrooms, a library/IT laboratory, and a music room. The ground floor will house four classrooms, a sick bay, the staff room and the Principals office. The basement will house an open breezeway, male and female washroom facilities, and a janitorial storage area.
