Saint Lucia’s Labour Minister Stephenson King has told reporters that with government negotiations with public sector unions concluded, it is time to ‘kick in’ the Minimum Wage Commission.

He recalled that the last one was done in 2010.

King said a report was presented and accepted in April 2011.

However the minister noted that some of the recommendations were never adopted.

“There were reasons why the recommendations were never adopted because they set to establish a flat minimum wage and didn’t consider the various sectors,” the Castries North MP and former Prime Minister explained.

“We need to look at a minimum wage that applies to various sectors because the various sectors do not apply the same rates of wage, etc.,” King observed.
