Martinique:Up to 9,000 households were left without electricity on Monday because of heavy rains in the afternoon

This Monday at 18 hours, 2000 households in Martinique remain deprived of electricity. "Following the severe weather that occurred on April 16 in the territory, 9000 customers were deprived of electricity in the middle of the afternoon, mainly in the towns of Vauclin, Robert, Francois, Ducos, Saint-Esprit and Lamentin" , says EDF.
"EDF teams immediately mobilized and were able to quickly replenish 7000 customers. Tonight, the teams are hard at work to replenish 2000 customers who are still without electricity (2% of EDF's customers), mainly in the Robert and François sectors. Breakdown operations are slowed down by weather and traffic conditions.
According to early findings, the damage is due to falling trees and rising water in some areas.
EDF reminds that you should not approach any electrical cable that has fallen on the ground because of the risk of electrocution. Contact the EDF 24h / 24 repair service: 0810 333 972.

Hailstones fell on Martinique this Monday afternoon, mainly to François, much to the surprise of the inhabitants of the town. This phenomenon "very rare" to see here, in photos and videos.

The Franciscans have received a shower of hailstones on their heads this afternoon, as evidenced by the many photos and videos shared on social networks. In Lamentin too, some inhabitants would have noticed the same thing.

Due to bad weather, heavy rains and falling hailstones the mayor of François activated the Communal Command Post. The first observations concern three landslides, tree falls and floods. Roads of access to François are blocked.
Nearly 150 people, children and adults, are accommodated in the deliberations room of the Town Hall. About fifty people are accommodated at Emmanuel Bruno school. The students of the school François Duval and Chopotte were collected at the town hall.
Regarding the other institutions located in the town, including the Adenet College and the school district La Jetée, hundreds of students are trapped inside, as their teachers and administrative staff who look after them. Due to the rising waters, all could spend the night there.
