Members of municipal councils will be elected on December 9th

The National Electoral Council (CNE) approved the timetable for the election of municipal council members, which will be held on December 9th.

"We call the election of municipal councils for Sunday, December 9th, 2018, for this election we will have 4,900 positions to choose, between principals and substitutes," informed the president of the organization, Tibisay Lucena, from the CNE headquarters in Caracas.

In transmission onVTV, you explained that 685 chief ediles and 685 substitutes will be chosen via the list, and by the nominal vote 1,703 principals and 1,703 substitutes. For indigenous people, 69 principal and 69 substitutes will be chosen.

Lucena indicated that the schedule foresees a special day of Electoral Registration between July 23rd to August 23rd for people who will register for the first time, as well as those who wish to update personal data and changes of residence.

The installation of the electoral boards will be on September 9th, so Lucena made the call to those people who were selected at the beginning of the year to provide mandatory electoral service in these instances to fulfill their responsibility again, as established by law.

"We are going to start convening them in mid-August, they should be pending reviewing the page of the National Electoral Council, to be attentive to training and installation," said Lucena.

Lucena said that the online application process for candidacy will take place between September 10th and 19th and the presentation of collections to the municipal boards will be from September 19th to 24th.

In addition, the Electoral Fair will be held from November 7 to December 6, while on November 11th a simulation of the electoral process will be held.

The schedule also establishes that the electoral campaign for this contest will start on November 22nd and it will end on December 7th.

The rector was selected for that election, 15 national political parties and 19 regional organizations are authorized to present their candidates.

In that sense, Lucena said that the process of constitution of organizations with political goals was activated, to which 30 groups are summoned.

"Once they are constituted as political parties, they also apply for this election process," he said.

Respect for parity

The president of the CNE reiterated that the applications for municipal councils must conform to the principles of gender parity. "You can maximum 60% and minimum 40% (of candidacies) of any of the genres."
