Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Welcomes Seven Interns in Data Operations and Graphic Design as Part of Skills Development Initiative

he Republic of China, Taiwan through its Embassy in Saint Lucia made a significant contribution to sports in Saint Lucia with close to US$250,000 in Gym equipment. The handing-over ceremony took place at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground (DSCG) on Friday, September 13.
H.E. Ambassador Peter Chen and Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Kenson Casimir presided over the ceremony, with the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Uralise Delaire giving the welcome remarks.
" Saint Lucia celebrates 45 years of independence this year, a milestone filled with proud memories. In the years to come, when we reflect on this anniversary, I believe one of the defining moments will be Julien Alfred's incredible achievement, winning Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympic gold medal. ..........We hope that this new facility will be part of that legacy, offering Saint Lucian athletes the tools they need to pursue their dreams.” Ambassador Chen noted.
Minister Casimir thanked the Taiwanese government for its continuous support of sports development in Saint Lucia.
“The Cricket Development Program is being held at this ground, with assistance from the Saint Lucia National Lotteries bringing in 30 of our best cricketers at the highest level, these players get nutritional and physical support through training and they can now be further enhanced by using this Gym. The Mindoo Phillip Park is a venue where most sportsmen and sportswomen enjoy the usage of the facility, and this is a very good investment for the people in the Castries basin in terms of athletics by various clubs, and schools,” Minister Casimir said.
According to him : “Over the last 16 months, Saint Lucia has seen a real investment made in our sports, not only did they invest US$250,000 in this program, but have also invested a significant amount of money in educating our athletes, and recently with the National Skills Development Centre (NSDC) they were able to launch a program where our national footballers, athletes and netballers received skills training."
