By Josiah G.A Bicette/SNN

Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) emergency personnel sprang into action on Wednesday, responding to a collision involving three vehicles at Goodlands, Castries, and rushing several individuals to the hospital.

The alarming incident unfolded around 11:00 am, shaking the quiet streets of the area. Among the vehicles involved were two minibuses operating on the Dennery and Jacmel routes, alongside a government-registered cargo van.

In the chaotic aftermath of the collision, SLFS units from various stations swiftly converged on the scene, prepared to render assistance to those affected.

Tragically, the collision resulted in injuries to numerous individuals, totaling eighteen victims who were transported to the hospital by the emergency responders. However, amidst the chaos, a ray of relief emerged as it was reported that the injuries sustained by the victims did not pose an immediate threat to their lives.

Preliminary investigations have suggested that the driver of one of the minibuses may have lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure, leading to the collision with the other vehicles involved.

As authorities continue to delve into the circumstances surrounding the collision, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the potential consequences of vehicular accidents. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and cautious while navigating the roads, in an effort to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
