NCF Contributes To SJC’s Class of ’72 Donation Drive
By NCF
PRESS RELEASE – The National Community Foundation (NCF) recently made a generous donation to the St. Joseph’s Convent Class of 1972 as the latter host activities to mark their golden jubilee this year.
The St. Joseph’s Convent Class of 1972 celebrated their 50th anniversary on April 24, 2022, under the theme, “Becoming better versions of ourselves”. As part of activities to commemorate the milestone, the Class of 1972 chose to assist the Comfort Bay Senior Citizens Home in Black Bay, Vieux Fort.
Comfort Bay Senior Citizens Home provides quality care for older persons in a safe and homely environment, while maintaining and promoting optimal level of their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. The facility continues to strive for excellence in service delivery and care through innovation, commitment and community participation.
The past students approached various commercial houses who have since made donations that will be used to prepare hampers. These hampers will be presented to the senior citizens home based in the island’s south.
NCF’s Executive Director, Michelle Phillips, said the NCF received a request for assistance through its National Insurance Corporation (NIC) contact. Fortunately, the NCF recently received a shipment of personal hygiene items and adult diapers from the Saint Lucia House Foundation based in New York.
“We had some supplies on hand that could be used in caring for the elderly,” Phillips said. “So we donated a selection of disposable underwear and bath towels to members of the Class of 1972 on Thursday, April 21.”
As a fellow SJC past student, Phillips said she was pleased that the NCF was able to help the SJC Class of ’72 meet this mandate of assisting the elderly.
“While we’re young, vibrant and up and about, it is easy to overlook the elderly,” she said. “But we all have to remember that if we are blessed with long life, we will eventually become part of the elderly population. So we must always remember that we need to take care of those persons who actually laid the foundation for us.”
Phillips stated that by each person contributing to our society in a meaningful way ensures that the legacy we leave for our children will be something on which they can build.
“We have to be grateful to our elderly by taking care of them. So we really appreciate what the Class of ’72 are doing and pleased to contribute towards that effort,” she said.
